The administrative and technical staff of any university play an essential and invaluable role. The Faculty of Engineering at Monash is no exception. As well as individual departmental secretaries and laboratory managers, the Faculty had its own Secretary. In 1987, this title was changed to Assistant Registrar, and in 1994 changed again to Head of Administration. Below is a list of the Faculty Secretaries since the beginning of Engineering at Monash:
1963: S L Auldrige
1964–1969: John Peacock
1970: R W Knight
1971: T O L Short
1972–1974: B D Shields
1975–1982: H D R Thomas
1983–1988: P J Campbell
1989: J A Dunn
1990–2004: David Secomb
In 2004 the position of Faculty Secretary ceased to exist. Two new roles were introduced - Business Manager and Academic Manager. In 2004 Brenda Fortington joined the Faculty of Engineering as the first Business Manager and David Secomb, previously Faculty Secretary, became the first Academic Manager. After Secomb's departure in 2008, Samantha Lipscombe became Academic Manager.
